The club will be taking part in the Southport 24 hour race again this year, and everyone is invited to take part, irrespective of their experience, age, or ability.
Each team sails around Southport marine lake continuously for 24 hours from midday on Saturday, with plenty of pit stops for crew changes. Pit stops can be entertaining! Inexperienced members can be teamed up with someone more experienced, and help onshore from non-sailing members is very welcome.
This is a very sociable event; food and drink are available from Friday night onwards, there’s live music, a disco, bar, etc. Tents, caravans, and motorhomes can be accommodated on the Scout site next to the lake.
Dependent on numbers, we will be entering either one, or preferably both, of the club’s Fireflies. Last year we entered both boats, with “Faster” and “Fun” teams, although in reality there was little difference between them. The cost per sailor is £10, as contribution to boat upkeep.
This is a great opportunity for everyone to join in and have some fun. To be part of it, either put your name on the list in the club house, contact one of your council members @ email@example.com , or contact me. For more information just ask around the club, many of us have participated before, or visit https://wlyc.org.uk/24-hour-race . I hope to see as many of our members there as possible.
Unfortunately we’ve had to cancel the Ops ‘n’ Tops session that was due to take place on this coming Saturday 24th June. We’re sorry for the short notice and any disappointment this may cause your little ones, but Ops ‘n’ Tops will be running as normal on the following Saturday 1st July.
Bookings now being taken on WebCollect for National Sailing Scheme Level 1 Course (6th / 7th May) and National Sailing Scheme Level 2 Course (24th / 25th June). RVSC provides RYA Training in various Dinghy classes.

As part of the RYA Push The Boat Out initiative. We will be holding two taster sessions on Saturday 14th and Saturday 21st May. 12pm – 4pm. Both sessions are open to non club members, for anyone who wants to find out what Sailing and Windsurfing is about.
This will be run under our Taster Session format. To make for two great days, we encourage all club sailors and windsurfers, to come along and get out on the water. To chat and make welcome those visiting for the first time. To assist with site access, and making brews!
Contact details can be found by following the RYA link. Please make contact, so we have an idea on numbers.
The club made its third visit in a row to Southport this year, where both teams performed better than we have in the previous years. It is clear that this is becoming a more and more popular event in the club’s calendar.
To this end we are keen to hear constructive comments and ideas from all our Members on how we can make this an even better event for 2016.
If you could take 5 minutes to complete this short questionnaire we would be extremely grateful.
